Amtel Simplifies Mobile Management for City of Enid

As Number of Mobile Devices in Use Expands, Amtel’s Mobile Lifecycle Solution Manages Apps, Protects Content, and Saves Time

As more and more municipal employees become part of the mobile revolution, the city’s IT department was faced with a critical problem: maintaining the exploding number of city-owned mobile devices. Many of these devices go home with workers, posing risks to sensitive information. Julia Brown, IT Network Support Specialist for the City of Enid, began looking for an alternative to the Excel spreadsheets the city had been using to track its devices and their status.

The City of Enid implemented several key features of Amtel MDM. Specifically, the city uses the file and content management features to share files and multimedia securely; manages mobile apps by enforcing “whitelist” policies and blocking “blacklist” apps; on-boards new employees rapidly via centralized push of configuration profiles and security policies; and secures Exchange email access and syncing using Amtel’s Mobile E-Mail Gateway virtual appliance. The city can even pinpoint the location of devices at any time and where they have been over a period of time by way of the GPS location tracking capability.

“When we didn’t have an MDM solution in place, there came a point where it became too much of a headache. I knew I had to look for a way to manage our devices,” Brown stated. Today, the City of Enid has full control over its mobile devices and reduced risks of data loss from lost or stolen devices with the ability to manage and protect content, simplify new user on-boarding, and securely deploy approved applications.
