Secures Mobile Devices & Content, Eliminates Recurring Costs & Takes Control of Mobile Apps With Amtel’s Mobile Lifecycle Management Solution
SANTA CLARA, CA–(Marketwired – Jul 9, 2013) – Amtel (www.amtelnet.com), the leading provider of integrated cloud-based solutions for mobile device, app and expense management, today announced the adoption of its Mobile Lifecycle Management solution by the City of Rancho Cordova, CA, to manage and protect mobile devices and documents used for city business. Benefits range from over $200,000 saved annually by enabling secure paperless document sharing among staff and city council members, to over-the-air distribution of approved mobile apps like Evernote for taking digital notes in city council meetings.
The city’s IT team selected Amtel’s solution after rejecting more expensive mobile device management products with less functionality, as well as standalone solutions like Dropbox and Apple Configurator that were inadequate, unwieldy and unable to provide the full range of required capabilities. Both city-owned and BYOD devices are now managed with Amtel’s integrated mobile security and app management solution.
“We chose Amtel because we got an MDM solution that did everything we needed and fit nicely within our budget. We got the control we needed over the devices, the content, and the network access with a full set of premium features for mobile apps management and location-based controls,” said Jay Hadley, IT Manager, City of Rancho Cordova. “Ease of use and the ability to centrally secure and manage devices proved a key to success.”
The city is currently using Amtel’s features to transmit and share files such as city council meeting agendas in a secure mobile container; manage mobile apps by enforcing “whitelist” policies and blocking “blacklist” apps; rapidly onboard new employees by centrally pushing configuration profiles and security policies; and provide secure Exchange email access and Exchange ActiveSync through Amtel’s Mobile E-Mail Gateway virtual appliance. The Amtel solution also enables the city to track the GPS location of any device and remotely lock and wipe devices in the event of loss or theft.
In the next phase of deployment, the city plans to use Amtel’s integrated expense management solution to initiate and manage a new BYOD stipend program in order to bring mobile productivity and efficiency to every city employee.
